We serviced a PS3 Phat today that was running loud. We dismantled the unit,removed both IHS’s and replaced the thermal compound above and below the IHS.

It’s like a birthday for these old units and they run smooth and quiet after being serviced

Once you remove the IHS’s and clean them up,the unit is ready for some fresh paste. Removing the CELL IHS is quite a risky task and can cause permanent damage to the CELL if not done correctly. Removing the IHS from the RSX is quite simple and requires a little heat from the heat wand until it pops off with a little pressure.

The heatsinks also need cleaning and fresh thermal compound applied

All in all, another successful service and one happy customer with a nice quiet running console
