PS3 CECH-H02 Frankenstein Mod witha true 2120 HDMI Ic error and GLOD.
I performed a Franky mod on a H02 non BC PS3 just for fun.
The console had the GLOD initially so I lifted the RSX thinking it was a faulty RSX,then I went ahead with a 65nm Frankenstein RSX swap.
To my surprise I still had the GLOD after the process was complete.
I then logged the Syscon only to find that it was showing a 2120 (HDMI) error while it was going through the boot process.
Then I tried retrieving the HDMI IC’s info etc bia prompt and was shown that the IC was actually faulty.
I replaced the IC and away she went.
Both GLOD times it was with no HDD activity also. Once replaced the HDD activity came back and she booted. A faulty RSX with a genuine GLOD behaves the same also,no HDD activity. So in the end logging the syscon lead me to it actually being a faulty HDMI encoder and in 15 plus years of repairing PS3’s, this is the first time I have encountered a genuine 2120 error and it being the IC. You usually get 2120/4002/4402/3034 with a faulty BGA connection under the RSX but yhe fact it was not producing the YLOD and shutting down lead me to investigate further.
I went aheah and delidded the CELL and replaced the NEC caps whilst at it so she is a true 65nm Frankenstein and should be a very stable and reliable unit.
Here are some pics of the process.
