Today I had an 80GB CECH-L02 unit come through with the YLOD.

First thing to do was dismantle it enough to read the Syscon log to pinpoint the error.

The error log pointed towards the NEC-Tokin capacitors feeding the RSX are failing. This is the symptom when powering on the console

While replacing the RSX caps I also replace the CELL caps as preventative maintenance.

The tantalum capacitors installed. Time to test the unit.

I also delidded the RSX and reapplied fresh thermal paste to both the CELL and RSX

As you can see by the video the console is back up and running. Another great repair. I also went ahead and reballed the RSX with leaded solder balls for great measure and longevity of the console.
